Why McCain Would Be 'Worse Than Bush'
-
He wants to tax health insurance as part of our income
-
He has abandoned his moderate positions in favor of the more extreme right-wing policies of his party
-
He says he doesn't know much about economics and is committed to expanding free trade.
Change to Win's Truth Squad of ten union members from around the country hits the road this week, visiting ten states with the truth about John McCain's lock-step loyalty to the most anti-worker policies of the Republican agenda. Their website, WorseThanBush.org, offers some tasty material for union communicators: video questions for McCain from ordinary Americans; multiple choice quiz with some choice anti-worker quotes; and links to articles and columns that show us how, despite the folksy packaging, McCain would indeed be a worse President than Bush.

And if you're lucky enough to attend one of the Truth Squad's press conferences, please let ILCA know! Write to us at ilca@aflcio.org and tell us what happened. Or record your own videotaped question for McCain, add it to the website and send us the link!
Financial Help for Women Organizers:
the Berger-Marks Foundation
Ever thought there ought to be an organization dedicated to supporting and nurturing women who build the union movement? Meet the Berger-Marks Foundation, that rare gem of a fund that provides effective, targeted assistance to a group that really needs it. Former ILCA Secretary-Treasurer Susan Phillips and former ILCA President Carolyn Jacobson are both involved with Berger-Marks, and for good reason: it's a visionary organization that really walks the
walk. Says Berger-Marks Secretary-Treasurer Jacobson: "Women make up nearly half of the American workforce. Recruiting, training, and keeping skilled women organizers are critical to union growth. The Berger-Marks Foundation plays a key role in helping in this effort."
Individual organizers can win grants of up to $40,000, and organizations or researchers can win grants of up to $20,000 for innovative projects organizing women workers. Past awardees include Jobs With Justice of St. Louis, American Rights at Work and the AFL-CIO's Department of Professional Employees.
Visit the Berger-Marks Foundation website and start thinking about how your union can benefit from its progressive projects and grants. Spread the word with a Berger-Marks ad on your website or an email to your members.
Celebrate Labor Day with Political Cartoons

A trio of cartoons by Mark Hurwitt is now available on ILCA's website for those who wish to include them in union publications.
Also, in the McCain Communicators' Tool Kit: McCain's Mansions; A new video campaign from Brave New Films. You can watch the video and then put it on your Facebook or MySpace page, email it to friends, and spread the word about McCain's disdain for working people who may be hurting financially.
