JOB POSTING: Director of
Communications & Media Relations
The
California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, the
nation's largest statewide federation of
unions, seeks an experienced Director of
Communications & Media Relations.
This is a job for a highly motivated,
multi-skilled person who wants to develop an
innovative communications strategy for the
labor movement with press, mail, public events,
union presentations, electronic communications
and political campaign messages.
As a
senior staff member, the Director of
Communications & Media Relations crafts and
manages the Federation's message, media and
materials for strategic legislative and
political campaigns. As part of a team,
you participate in strategy decisions to
position the Federation in building political
and economic power for
workers.
Responsibilities would include,
but are not limited to:
Develop the
Federation's multiple communications
strategies.
Lead the news media outreach on
economic and workplace issues.
Create the
Federation's messages for its political and
legislative campaigns.
Manage creative
email, Internet, and website
communications.
Oversee the Federation's
extensive membership, political mail program
with the assistance of polling, political
consultants, and other vendors. Deliver
top-quality communications that win
elections.
Prepare member updates, letters,
flyers and mailers for outreach to 1200
affiliated unions; write, design, produce
brochures, reports and worksite flyers;
conceptualize and oversee the production of
videos, PowerPoint presentations, CDs and DVDs;
coordinate the production of materials for
conventions, conferences, campaign schools;
help produce training materials and support to
local
unions.
Requirements:
Journalism/news
media experience.
Demonstrated strength in
writing and editing.
Knowledge of
California's political and economic
climate.
Computer literacy; familiarity with
word processing, page layout, web design,
multimedia programs.
Demonstrated ability to
multitask and meet deadlines.
Familiarity
with key labor issues and ability to work with
labor constituencies.
Strong project
management
skills.
