Washington, D.C. The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), AFL-CIO, is proud to hose Generations United, Organizing for Change, APALA's 10th Biennial Convention at Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9 to 12, 2009.

"Generations United, Organizing for Change represents the first national convening of Asian Pacific American workers and students," said Maria Somma, APALA National President.

This powerful alliance was launched when APALA invited students to join the labor movement through the APALA Organizing Institute and has continued through the political program, Every Vote Counts, recruiting high school and college students to reach out and mobilize Asian Pacific American voters.

"Our convention represents a conscious effort by APALA to engage the next generation of young workers, student activists and community organizers, while simultaneously honoring the passion, dedication and accomplishments that longtime leaders have provided to our cause," said Amado Uno, APALA Executive Director.  "The Labor Movement is in need of new ideas, perspectives and energy.  This is a first step in that direction," added Uno.

APALA's National Convention will:

  •  -Highlight prominent student and worker solidarity campaigns from across the country;
  • - Enhance organizing, communication and political skills through panels, workshops and plenary sessions;
  • - Provide learning opportunities for young workers and students to enter the labor movement through internships, scholarships and entry-level positions;
  • - Elevate successful organizing strategies utilized by unions and community-based organizations to organize Asian Pacific American workers.
