Vote for your future.
The goal of the Every Vote Counts program is to train APA labor and community leaders to become active participants in the political system. APALA believes an active and mobilized APA community can become a strategic partner and supporter of the labor movement.
The APA vote has
increasingly determined the outcome of several
elections across the country. For
example, in the 2006 election, the APA vote
exceeded the vote differential in 52
Congressional elections, five Senate races and
three Gubernatorial
races.
The APA vote
increased to 6.7million in 2006 a 223% increase
from the almost 3 million voters in 2004, which
represented a 45 percent increase from
2000.
The 2008
election represented a critical year for Asian
Pacific Americans and the labor movement, as
well as the broader American electorate.
Totaling 13.5 million, APAs represent
the fastest growing population in the United
States, increasing by close to 90 percent since
1990.
Furthermore, APAs are projected to
account for 10 percent of the U.S. population
by 2050, further reinforcing the notion that an
investment in the APA electorate represents a
long-term vision with short-term
benefits.
The 4 basic components of the
Every Vote Counts program include voter
registration, voter education, voter
mobilization, and election
protection.
