MEDIA RELEASE           OCTOBER 7, 2007

UR SERVICE WORKERS REACH TENTATIVE CONTRACT SETTLEMENT

14 HOUR BARGAINING SESSION ENDS WITH NEW AGREEMENTS

(Rochester) - With contracts due to expire at midnight, employee
and management negotiators at the University of Rochester reached a
tentative agreement at 11 pm Saturday on new employment terms covering over
1400 service workers at UR campuses and its Strong Memorial Hospital
division.  The settlement capped a 14 hour bargaining session supervised by
Federal Mediator Kenneth Armes.

Details of the proposed new contracts will not be released until
union members have had the opportunity to vote.  A ratification vote is
expected by midweek.  The tentative agreement is being unanimously
recommended for approval by both union negotiating committees.

The two UR service worker union contracts had been extended one
week while talks continued.  Negotiations adjourned Friday for the funeral
of union activist and negotiating committee member Latasha Shaw whose life
tragically ended September 29.  The new union contracts will be dedicated
to her memory

UR employees involved in the talks include patient care
technicians, nursing unit secretaries, surgical assistants, environmental
and facilities maintenance employees, food service, transportation, and
materials processing staff.       They are members of SEIU Local 200United
and 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.
