“Healthcare & Freedom from Intimidation – Support comprehensive, progressive national health care reform and the Employee Free Choice Act”

(Rochester, NY) – At 10:00am on Monday, September 3, 2007, the Rochester Labor Council, AFL-CIO will host a press conference preceding our annual Labor Day Parade.

”This Labor day, Organized Labor is drawing a line in the sand. We are prepared and willing to fight for secure, high quality health care for all Americans,” stated Jim Bertolone, President of the Rochester & Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO and President of the American Postal Workers Union Local 215. ”In addition to Labor’s focus on healthy working families, we are continuing to strengthen our call for the Employee Free Choice Act.,” continued Bertolone.

Joining us at the press conference will be representatives from UNITE HERE to discuss the current struggle of hotel workers, representatives from SEIU to discuss healthcare, elected officials and Congressional Candidate, Eric Massa to discuss the importance of Healthcare reform and the Employee Free Choice Act.

The Labor Day Parade:

Featuring 100 units, more than 3,000 working families, 10 bands, floats, cars and more, the Rochester Labor Council, Labor Day Parade will begin at 11:00am and wind from the intersection of East Avenue and Alexander Street, down East Avenue until the parade route turns west on Main Street, and concludes at the intersection of Main Street & South Plymouth Avenue.

Grande Marshals: Tony Bernardo (United Auto Workers Local 1097, retired), Dan Conte (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 86, retired), and Joe Montesano (International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1071, retired) will lead the parade.

The Rochester Labor Day Parade will focus on its theme “Commitment to Community” with a focus on Secure, High Quality Health Care for All, while highlighting area workers in this struggle.
