WORKERS ANGRY OVER KUHL FLIP-FLOP ON EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT PLAN TO DEMONSTRATE AT TOWN HALL MEETING SATURDAY

(Corning, NY) - Dozens of workers, many of them local union members, are expected to demonstrate outside Congressman John "Randy" Kuhl's town hall meeting in Corning, Saturday morning. The workers are angry over Kuhl's recent vote on the Employee Free Choice Act.

"It's a flip-flop, pure and simple." said Area Labor Federation President Jim Bertolone. "Kuhl actually cosponsored the Employee Free Choice Act when he first ran for Congress in 2004. Now, reelected, he reversed his position to vote with George W. Bush, and became the only bill cosponsor to vote 'no'."

The Employee Free Choice Act is designed to reform procedures for workers to form unions and employee associations without interference from their employer. It passed the U.S. House of Representatives on March 1 by a margin of 241 to 185. "

Current rules for union elections make them look like elections in the former Soviet Union - one side holds all the cards." continued Bertolone. "Employers can propaganize and harass their employees with impunity. The votes are held right on the employer's turf, often in plain sight of management officials. This bill restores democracy and fairness to workplace relations, and Randy Kuhl voted against it."
